Gabriella Kohr is a Southern California based Panamanian American artist whose work draws inspiration from both land and sea. Raised between rural farmland in Pennsylvania and the seaside town of Bethany Beach, Delaware, she developed an early connection to the natural environments that continue to shape her visual language.
Working primarily from life, Kohr creates paintings and charcoal drawings that translate lived experience into layered compositions of light, color, and gesture. Her practice reflects a contemporary impressionistic approach informed by immersive travel, global residencies, and an ongoing engagement with landscape and daily observation. Figures, interiors, and natural forms emerge through expressive mark making, capturing fleeting moments and the shifting atmosphere of the environments around her.
Another constant in Kohr’s life is the dialogue between art and fashion. Moving fluidly between these two creative worlds has become an important duality within her practice. Weaving painting with fashion has opened new avenues for collaboration and project-based work, allowing her to explore how visual art can live beyond the canvas while shaping a vibrant and expressive creative life.
Kohr works from her canyon loft studio in Laguna Beach, California, located two miles from the Pacific Ocean. The rare convergence of canyon and coastline echoes the dual landscapes that have shaped her life, balancing rugged terrain with the calm openness of the sea. This relationship between environment and perception remains central to her work.
She earned her BFA from the Laguna College of Art & Design in 2020 and lives and works in Laguna Beach as a full-time artist.
