Girls on Film - Three Women, Archival Print
Girls on Film, Three Women, 9”X12” Archival original print by Gabriella Kohr, 2024.
Girls on Film / Three Women honors the great masters of art while capturing the essence of three modern women as a unified trinity—living embodiments of the divine feminine. Through their interaction and harmony, these figures contribute to a larger narrative of connection, strength, and grace.
The piece begins with a unique approach: charcoal sourced directly from the beaches of Laguna. This raw, locally gathered material plays a vital role in the work’s creation, imbuing it with an organic, fluid texture. The charcoal’s natural lightness and delicacy lend an ethereal quality, creating a foundation that doesn’t cling too firmly to the paper. This freedom allows for large, confident strokes, unburdened by precision. As the drawing unfolds, I work with different types of charcoal to build depth through light and shadow, embracing the technique of pentimento—letting each mark remain visible, guiding the image’s organic evolution.
